CUBA - ISLA DE LA JUVENTUD SUL GEORGIANA

Ecco il report del nostro viaggio di Marzo, abbiamo esplorato le acque comprese tra la Isla de la Juventud e Cayo Largo.

Here's the report of our March trip exploring the waters between Island of youth and Cayo Largo in Cuba.

I luoghi sono vari, dal canale di mangrovie regno di snook e snappers alle flat erbose popolate di bonefish a quelle sabbiose terreno di caccia dei barracuda, per non parlare del reef popolato da grandi cubere e delle acque profonde da affrontare a jigging.

We fished in various environments, from mangrove creeks populated by snooks and snappers to grass flats with their bonefishes, to sandy ones partolled by cudas, deep reef with big cuberas and deep waters to be fished with heavy jigging tackles.

Il canale di mangrovie, affrontato con attrezzatura light ma non troppo, PE3, Ripple Fisher Aquila 743 e piccoli topwater o esche di gomma su jighead:

Le flat popolate dai cari bhonefish, piccole jighead da 1-2 grammi e canna da ajing della Yamaga Blanks Blue Current 78M , PE 0.6 e tanta precisione, divertentissimi.

Grass flats hosted nice bonefishes, very funny to be fished with ajing tackle, Yamaga Blanks Blue Current 78M, 1-2 grams jigheads and PE 0.6... a real hunt.

Una delle pesche più divertenti è quella al barracuda a vista in acque bassissime con piccoli topwater, baby dorado e needlefish by Alle's Lures e canne sia molto leggere come la Yamaga Blanks Ballistic 73WC abbinata a PE 0.8, sia un po' più pesanti come la classica blue Sniper 70/3

Great fun catching barracuda on sight fishing in shallow waters, usually on small topwaters like needlefish and baby dorado by Alle's Lures and very light rod like Yamaga Ballistick 73WC or heavier one like the classic Blue sniper 70/3

Poi il reef coi bestioni che spesso hanno vinto le sfide più dure, canna PE8 come la Blue Reef 710/8 di Yamaga o la GT82LC di Ripple Fisher e grossi stickbait come il Valmar da 130 grammi.

The reef had to be fished with PE 8 class tackle like Yamaga Blue Reef 710/8 and Ripple Fisher GT82LC, big stickbait like Valmar 130 grams, but we still lost some of the worst battles.

E da ultimo il jigging, con le sue solite sorprese e catture inaspettate, PE8 a causa delle cernie giganti, anche se questa volta non ci hanno fatto visita, e l'indispensabile cavo d'acciaio visto l'elevata presenza di dentature affilatissime.

And for last jigging, with PE8, due to the presence of enormous groupers, and the mandatory wire leader because of the heavy presence of terrible toothy mouths.

REPORT: GUINEA BISSAU - ILE KERE'

Rieccoci di ritorno dal nostro ultimo viaggio in Guinea Bissau: il posto è sempre fantastico, l'accoglienza ottima, la pesca molto varia e, nonostante il vento sfavorevole che intorbidiva le acque, abbiamo effettuato molte valide catture sia in light jigging che topwater.

We're back from our latest trip in Guinea Bissau: place is always wonderful, hosting perfect, fishing is quite various and, in spite of a uncommon bad wind that put the water dirty, we caught a lot of fishes in light jigging and topwater.

 

 

A jigging con kabura, inchiku e soft plastic, su fondali da 7 a 30 metri, l'hanno fatta da padrone le otoliti, con best one di 12 kg per me ma che scompariva di fronte a una di oltre 16 kg di alcuni amici francesi; a contorno alcuni bei jack crevalle ma ancora mi manca l'incontro col "capitain", ovvero il west african threadfin, anche se proprio il giorno prima del nostro arrivo ne era uscito uno di over 10 kg... molto buono a tavola devo dire.

We jigged with kaburas, inchikus and soft plastics on depths between 7 and 30 meters; main quarry where the otholites with a best for me of 12 kilos, big fish but still a puppy compared to an over 16 of some french friends; beside them we foud nice jack crevalle but I still miss the encounter with the "capitain" aka west african threadfin,,, just the day before our arrive a 10 kilos specimen had been cauhgt... very good on the dish.

Sempre dalla barca ottimo lo spinning topwater, con bei carangidi, sia jack crevalle che fishery, questi ultimi più compatti e tipici dell'Africa occidentale; oltre a loro qualche snapper e dei bei barracuda quando non tagliavano il terminale.

Again from the boat we had good catches on topwaters, mainly jack creavalles and fishery, a specie typical of West Africa, also some snapper and some nice barracuda, when the didn't manage to cut the nylon leader.

 

I ragazzi francesi, che si sono dedicati anche alla traina hanno catturato esemplari di barracuda "afra" veramente notevoli, come questo di 25 kg pesati.

French guys devoted some time to trolling and they caught very big specimen of Guinean barracuda, like this one of 25 kilos

Ma la parte più bella di questo viaggio è stata la pesca da terra, sia in locations remote come l'isola di Formosa, sia proprio dall'isolotto di Kerè; è praticamente possibile usciere dal bungalow, fare pochi passi ed agganciare una miriade di ladyfish e pesci minori, ma al giusto momento non mancheranno i grandi predatori come carangidi, mackerel, snappers e gli onnipresenti barra.

Best part of this trip has been shore fishing, in some remote locations like the Formosa island, or even from the same Kerè island; it's possible just to walk the beach down the bungalow and start fishing for a herd of ladyfishes and other small ones, but when the right moment big predators will show themselves in the shape of big jacks, mackerel, snappers and the ubiquitous Guinean Barra.

Abbiamo anche pescato fuori dalle nostre convenzioni, con attrezzatura da light game, nella fattispecie una Yamaga Blanks Blue Current 78 con potenza 1-12 grammi ... gli attacchi erano quasi ad ogni lancio, in una giornata si possono tranquillamente catturare 100-150 pesci a due passi dal bungalow e dal fornito bar, quando si è stanchi ci si piazza su uno sdraio e si ricomincia subito dopo.... cosa si può volere di più?

We also did some "light game" with a Yamaga Blanks Blue Current 78, with lure weight of 1-12 grams .... almost every cast generated an attack, in a day we can easily catch 100-150 fishes at two fotsteps from the bungalow and the well furnished bar; when tired you can just relax on a hammock to restart soon later..... what els could we desire?
