Tempo di pianificare, a gennaio si va in Colombia di nuovo, ormai è quasi una seconda casa...
-Prima settimana dal 5 al 14 sul rio Mataven a pescare alcuni dei peacock bass più grandi in giro
-Seconda settimana dal 15 al 21 a Bahia Solano, alla ricerca dei "soliti" cuberoni, ricciole, jack, tonni e compagnia, con un occhio particolare per tarpon e snook questa volta magari.
Time to plan some trips, January we go again in Colombia, it is becoming almost a new home ..
Fisrt week 5th-12nd on Mataven River, searching for some of the biggest Peacock Bass around
Second week 13rd-21st in Bahia Solano, fishing for "usual" cuberas, amberjacks, tunas, jacks and so on, with a special eye for snook and tarpon this time.
A dicembre scorso avevo pubblicato le prime impressioni su questa canna particolare in questo post , dopo l'esperienza maturata in Guinea Bissau, e mi ero ripromesso di continuare le prove in altri scenari e con altri approcci verticali, dopo la gomma e inchiku/kabura delle prime pescate; occasione trovata in Colombia lo scorso maggio.
Questa volta ho provato a pescare nel più classico vertical jigging, sia pure in forma leggera viste le condizioni ambientali.
Esche usate metal jigs da 60 a 120 grammi, lavorati principalmente a short jerk.
Le prede non sono mancate, sotto forma di Almaco Jack di buona mole, specie considerando il PE3 in bobina, e qualche pesce minore come snappers e cernie di taglia modesta.
Past december I published my first impressions on this very peculiar rod in another post , soon after the experience I matured in Guinea Bissau, and I promised to myself to try it again in other places and with other fishing approaches, after the softies on jighead and inchiku/kabura of first tries; right occasion happened in Colombia in May.
This time I tried to fish with normal vertical jigging technique, even if in relatively light form due to environmental conditions. I used mostly jigs between 60 to 120 grams in short jerk.
I caught a good number of fishes, mostly almaco jacks of good size, especially considering the PE3 in the reel, and some minor species of snappers and groupers.
L'attrezzo si è trovato perfettamente a suo agio anche con questa presentazione, abbinato con uno Shimano Ocea Jigger 1501HG, mulinello veloce quindi, in particolare l'anellatura montata a spirale ci ha protetto da possibili volte di filo attorno al cimino. Il controllo in combattimento è stato ottimo, anche se ovviamente le tempistiche sono aumentate rispetto agli amici col PE5 con cui condividevo la barca; ottimo backbone per questa classe di filo senza dubbio.
The rod was perfect even with this presentation, paired with a Shimano Ocea jigger 1501HG, a fast reel, spiral montage was especially useful not to have coils of line wrapping on the tip section. Fish control during fisht was very good thanks to the nice backbone for this class of line, even if time was obviously longer than my friends using PE5.

Come già in passato, ogni tanto ci capita per le mani qualche canna "insolita" per i parametri dello spinning italiano e mediterraneo, insolita per le abitudini del mercato, perché in realtà si adatta perfettamente a situazioni riscontrabili anche da noi.
Sometimes it happens we have some special rod for a special customer order, a rod "unusual" by italian market standards, but in reality it often suits very well mediterranean fishing ground and more.
E' la volta di una canna da "hira suzuki", ovvero creata per pescare in scogliera e acque mosse pesci energetici e spesso di grossa taglia come le blackfin suzuki, sorella dopata della conosciuta spigola giapponese. Parliamo di pesca impegnativa da scogli spesso alti e battuti da onde potenti, ove l'esigenza primaria è stare al sicuro dal frangente, riuscire a presentare esche di varie tipologie e combattere pesci in un ambiente ostile e in presenza di forte corrente, tutte cose perfettamente riscontrabili anche sulle nostre coste in condizioni di mareggiate e scadute importanti.
This time we checked a "hira" rod, created for shore fishing the blackfin suzuki, the bad sister of the common japanese seabass, a fish that dwells around rocky shores pounded by big waves and strong currents. The needs of this kind of fishing are safety from the waves, the presentation of a wide array of lures, and the demanding fights with strong fishes in a difficult environment. All those things can be found also in the Med coasts, soon after a storm that typically move our local predators.
Per la prima richiesta, evidentemente una 11 piedi ( 336 cm ) ci garantisce quella distanza di sicurezza opportuna per evitare di essere investiti da onde inaspettate pur rimanendo in pesca in maniera perfetta; la lunghezza può apparire anche esagerata ma in realtà la leggerezza della canna, ottenuta grazie alle nuovissime nano alloy, con solo 228 grammi ci consente una maneggevolezza che precedentemente non era riscontrabile in attrezzi analoghi.
The lenght of 11 feet obviously grants our safety on the rocks, allowing an effective fishing action while keeping the right distance from the breakers; maybe lenght can seem exagerated, but in reality the very light weight of the rod of 228 grams, obtained with the new "Nano alloy" materials, allows a surprisingly easy handling, a things not found in older similar rods.
La presentazione dell'esca nelle nostre prove, e da come si può chiaramente vedere nel video ufficiale, è paragonabile a quella ottenibile con le classiche "corte" a cui siamo abituati; minnows anche piccoli a partire da 10 cm per arrivare a taglie importanti da 50 grammi, wtd, stickbaits, pencil, jigs e anche gomma sono tutti nel range di questa canna e perfettamente manovrabili anche in distanza e profondità... e quando parliamo di distanza intendiamo quella vera, dato che la lunga leva e la sottigliezza del fusto che offre poca resistenza all'aria ci permettono di ottenere lanci stupefacenti; un buon minnow viaggia a 60 metri, con un metal da 40 valichiamo i 100, ovviamente con mulinello e trecciato bilanciati.
We found very easy in our testng to work the lures, in a way comparable to the "short" rods we're used to play with; small minnows from 10 cm to 50 grams, wtd stickbaits, pencils, jigs and even soft plastics can all be used with the Hira and perfectly worked even in distance... and we're talking real distance, thanks to long leverage and thin profile of blank and rings we can easily make incredible casts; a good minnow flies to 60 meters while a 40 grams metal can easily shatter the 100 mt barrier, with the righ reel and braid combo.
Le prede? Spigole a mare mosso, anche se la schiena potente e con gran riserva di potenza ambisce a ben altro... quindi palamite, alletterati, ricciole di media taglia, dentici, grossi serra e altro; niente paura a tirare, il dentice lo teniamo lontano dallo scalino grazie alla leva fast al limite dello shore jigging. I pesci da qualche chilo nel video li volano di peso direttamente, tanta schiena davvero, ma dopotutto è la filosofia Yamaga che dice più o meno quanto segue: "non importa quanto leggero peschiate, il pesce da sogno può sempre arrivare e le nostre canne vi forniscono quella potenza nascosta di cui avete bisogno in quelle situazioni". What fishes we can target with it? First, big seabass ih wavy conditions, but the strong backbone can withstand much more ... so atlantic bonitos, little tunny, small amberjacks, good size leerfishes, dentex, bluefishes and much more; no fear in the fight, a dentex is easily kept far from the edge of the dropoff. In the official video the average fishes of few kilos are easily lifted from the water in a single fast movement, there is for sure the hidden power for some amazing catches.

Diciamo che avremo il tempo di provarla ampiamente in futuro perchè è il classico caso in cui "resta attaccata alle mani" :D
Come componentistica e estetica, niente fronzoli, un sobrio e bellissimo nero, reel seat con secondo anello per assicurare la chiusura sul mulinello, anelli ultra light in torzite stile "k" dal primo all'ultimo, doppio ponte alla base come si confà a una canna importante sulla quale potrebbe arrivare di tutto e diametri giusti che ci consentono terminali importanti; ovviamente il prezzo è importante per questa Rolls Royce dello spinning costiero, ma per ve vale fino all'ultimo centesimo.
We will try it mor extensively in future, as this is the classic example of a rod that stays glued to my hand :D Components are of course first quality for a rod of this high level, a sober black blank with no unuseful gimmicks, a reel seat with second safety screw ring, ultra light Torzite rings with K style form beginning to end, double feet where needed for a important rod. Of course beautiful things have their right cost.
Ultimamente a quasi ogni viaggio ci scappano quel paio di ore di microjigging, vuoi per lasciare spazio a chi in barca non ha ancora preso il suo trofeo e poppera come un drago a prua, vuoi per vedere che specie strane si celano in quelle acque, vuoi per semplice e puro divertimento... è la volta del Pacifico colombiano, nuove specie, molte identificate ma altre no.
I've been microjigging a couple hours or more on every trip lately, part to leave room to a friend popping hard for that special trophy, part to see what strange fishes hide in those waters, part simply for fun... this time in Pacific Colombia, some new species for me, some identified, some other not yet.

A volte entra il pesciotto di taglia relativa che mette alla prova le attrezzature ridotte, specie in corrente.... jack crevalle sulla cara Yamaga Blanks Seawalk 65ML, in realtà ho preso pesci ben più grandi in passato con essa.

Periodo pieno, ma finalmente trovo il tempo per mettere le foto del nostro primo viaggio in Colombia, che dire, oltre le migliori aspettative: paese stupendo, natura spettacolare e tanto tanto pesce.
La logistica non è difficile, meno che altri posti strani in cui sono stato; assolutamente da ripetere.
L'ambiente è molto particolare, la foresta vergine si fonde col mare, costellato di grandi faraglioni in un ambiente incredibile e primordiale, ti aspetti quasi di vedere un T-rex sporgere la testa dalla vegetazione da un momento all'altro :D
Busy period but I finally find the time to put the pictures of our first Colombian trip; it was beyond our best expectations: wonderful country, pristine nature and lots, lots of fishes. It is not very difficult to arrive there, easier than many of the strange places I have been before, absolutely to replicate. Environment is very special, the wild jungle melts with the sea, filled with big farallons in a incredible and primordial scenario; you almost expect to see a T-rex protruding its head out of the tree line :D
