I've been searching long time for the right soft bait to be skipped under mangrove branches, a compact lure, heavy enough and with interesting vibrations, able to be dressed with a serious and heavy wide gap hook ... I am talking a fishing action made with a 6 footer or little more of a rod, strong reel and PE2 or better PE3 to muscle out of their hiding place fishes like snappers, snooks and other stubborn critters.
Non trovando molto sul mercato mi è toccato costruirla, o meglio, produrre il master in legno e fare colare le gomme a un amico, Marco Bottoni alias Botto Lures.
Le prime prove in Guinea Bissau, pur in assenza di vegetazione fitta, sono state veramente soddisfacenti; l'esca è sufficientemente pesante da essere proiettata anche più lontano del previsto, e si è rivelata molto catturante tanto su snapper che carangidi, la prova Snook ce la riserviamo per l Colombia a Marzo prossimo.
Porta ami dal 3/0 al 5/0 con disinvoltura, affondando lentamente e reagendo molto bene alle jerkate, mantenendo un livello di vibrazione anche al minimo tocco grazie alla codina cava che crea turbolenze consistenti.
A occhio la vedo bene anche per spigole e serra nostrani, proveremo magari.
Not finding much on the market, I made a wood master and had the plastic molded by a friend, Marco Bottoni, aka Botto Lures.
First experiments in Guinea Bissau, even with little vegetation around, have been very rewarding; the soft bait is heavy enough to be cast farther than expected and needed and it worked very well on local Guinean Snappers and Jacks.. I'll try it on snooks in March on my usual Colombian trip.
It can be rigged with hooks between 3/0 and 5/0, supporting them easily even in such small and compact shape, it reacts very erratically to rod twitches and keeps a nice vibration even on very little movements, thanks to the hollow tail.
I guess it could be very succesful even on our local seabass and bluefishes
